Dr. Chuck Landon, Phil Klem and Wendell Fowler have one thing in common. Each has overcome a death sentence
from major, life threatening chronic disease with names such as heart disease, cancer, stoke, fybromyalgia and terminal viral cardioimyopathy.
Each is also an expert in health and/or nutrition, and together with Jimmy Raymer of The Good Stuff convene in the City Market the third Saturday of each month for Eat Right Now, an holistic health fair and vegetarian workshop from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The next fair will be Feb. 20.
“They’ve been through it, now they’re getting down to it,” said Fowler, a well-known local chef who has organized the events. “The proposition of death can be rather motivating,” he said.
Landon offers free naturopathic health consultations; Klem deals in massage therapy and muscle release therapy; Fowler, a chef, offers diet consultations; and Raymer offers advice on nutrition supplements.
Fowler said the monthly workshop is designed “to teach and reboot destructive eating behaviors.” Each session not only includes free consultations, but also free tastings of vegetarian foods.
He added that the workshops have been well-received. “We’ve been told by attendees that we change lives – offer hope that was not there. Most folks who attend are suffering or have overcome chronic disease,” Fowler said. “They seek a holistic maintenance protocol. They have been put out to pasture by allopathic medicine.”
