Christmas trees and more can be recycled

City residents will be able to recycle their Christmas trees from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, by taking them to Garfield Park or three other locations during the fourth annual Post-Holiday Recycling Event.

The one-day event will also be an opportunity to recycle electronics such as computer equipment, cell phones, TVs no larger than 27 inches, VCRs, DVD players and stereos.

Other items to be accepted include cardboard boxes, gift boxes (no wrapping paper) and styrofoam (white foam, clean with no glue). Christmas trees should be cleaned of all ornaments, lights, tree stands, plastic bags, and other decorations.

Other recycling locations will be Broad Ripple Park, Ellenberger Park and Krannert Park.

The event is sponsored by the Office of Sustainability, in conjunction with Indy Parks, the Department of Public Works and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful. This one-day event is designed to offer residents an environmentally safe way to dispose of unwanted electronics and to provide a reuse and recycling option for Christmas trees. Volunteers will be on hand to help unload recyclables.
