The Tides will headline the 2009 Taste of Downtown, to be conducted from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8. The annual event is staged by Easley Winery in the 200 block of College Avenue and at the winery, which sits on the corner of College Avenue and Ohio Street just south of Lockerbie Square.
The Taste of Downtown will benefit Gleaner’s Food Bank. Participants are asked to bring a canned food item to be donated to Gleaner’s.
The entertainment schedule includes Tastes Like Chicken from 4 to 6 p.m., the Richmonds from 6 to 8 p.m. and The Tides from 8 to 10 p.m.
True to its name, Taste of Downtown will feature a variety of food choices, with as many as 10 restaurants providing offerings in sample portions so event participants can taste many different foods. At press time, vendors included The Villa, O’Malia’s Grill and Da Blue Lagoon.
The event will also feature a vintage car show, with over 60 vehicles scheduled to be on hand, by invitation only. Many Downtown businesses, organizations and artists will also have booths at the event.
Free winery tours will be given every half-hour throughout the event. Winery tours in Spanish will be available from 4 to 6 p.m.
